Almost everyone who is overweight wants to lose those extra pounds. The problem many people have is that they want to lose body fat quickly. They also want to keep the weight off and not have to worry about what they eat.
I’ve been there as well. There have been many times over the years that I wanted to lose body fat quickly. I have always tried to maintain a healthy, fit body, but have had a problem with keeping the weight off. I also love to eat. It seems the things I love to eat are all fattening. Over the years my metabolism has slowed as has my activity level. I was very active as a youngster and could eat anything I wanted. As I’ve aged, I have to be very careful in what I eat and how much. Maintaining an active lifestyle is also harder as you get older. I try to exercise daily, but it doesn’t always work.
I finally was able to lose 20 pounds by following my wife’s eating program, prescribed by a nutritionist. However, I continued to cheat, rationalizing that, if I exercised regularly, I could occasionally enjoy some cake or sweets. 20 pounds was a nice accomplishment. But I wanted to lose more weight to align my body with my BMI index.
Although I was eating healthy foods (salads, chicken, fish, fruit) and exercising daily, I had hit a weight plateau. I realized that I was just eating too much of everything. I needed to maintain portion control. About six weeks ago, I started cutting down on the amount of food I was eating and proceeded to lose 8 pounds. I also set goals to lose a total of 10 pounds by mid-January and another 10 pounds by May 2010. In addition, I weigh myself every day, not weekly as some say. Seeing the number on the scale daily keeps me focused.
I realize that goals are very important in whatever you do. I feel my goals are realistic and attainable. I am in no rush to lose body fat quickly, just steadily. As long as I continue to lose weight I can spread my goals out over a certain period of time. It is also a healthy way to lose body fat.
However, some people feel the need to or must lose weight and lose body fat quickly. There are many programs available to accomplish this. The key to any weight loss program is the ability to be consistent and to be able to maintain the program.
